Aftercare Tips for a Smooth Recovery
1. Be prepared for a little discomfort: It is not uncommon to experience some discomfort after getting your braces off, especially if you have had them on for a long time. This is normal and should subside within a few days. However, if the pain persists or gets worse, be sure to contact our office.
2. Keep up with your oral hygiene: It is important to continue practicing good oral hygiene even after your braces have been removed. This means brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and using mouthwash as needed.
3. Be sure to promptly pick up your retainers: It is important to start wearing your retainers as soon as we have them ready. This is typically between 1 and 3 days after your debond appointment. Your teeth will want to start shifting, and we want them to stay put!
5. Keep up with your scheduled appointments: We will want to see you a few more times to make sure everything is going smoothly. Typically we will see you 6 weeks after you pick up your retainers, and then 6 months afterwards to evaluate your progress. If you are a Phase 1 patient, we will continue to see you every 6 months to evaluate your need for a Phase 2.
